American Writer Artie Knapp was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, in 1973. A library bearing his name is featured on the internationally acclaimed Kids site Candlelightstories.com. Artie’s Children’s Literature has appeared in such publications as DLTK Kids, The Kidz Page, Humpty Dumpty’s Magazine, Alphabet-Soup.net, The California Kids Newspaper, The Labradorian, Kids Free Souls, The Gloob, Kids Turn Central and The Pakistan Television Corporation to name a few. He is a member of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and graduated from Ohio University. Artie lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife Priya.

The works below are listed in the order they were originally written and published.  Writing Children’s Literature brings me more enjoyment than any other genre of writing.  An underlying consistency in my work is my use of humor.  I can think of no better way to enhance a child’s interest in reading than by making them laugh. I hope that I do both.

  • From Gettysburg to Baghdad (2005) - Short story; originally published in Issue 27 of Nuvein Magazine, Grand Prize winner of the 2007 Flash Gordon Short Science Fiction Writing Contest.       
  • The Wasp and the Canary (2006) - Children's Story; a wasp comes looking for a tasty dinner and finds a friend along the way.  
  • The Hummingbird Who Chewed Bubblegum (2006) - Children's Story; a little hummingbird wants gum and can blow big bubbles.
  • Sprinting Spencer Still Wants to Run (2006) - Children's Story; a former star thoroughbred race horse struggles with his racing days being over.
  • The Lazy Loppin Goat (2006) - Children's Story; a little goat’s unwillingness to eat grass gets her accused of being lazy.
  • Ed Wood for Inspiration (2006) - Non-fiction cover story; originally published by the Piker Press Literary Journal.      
  • Two Crows for an Empty Feeling (2006) - Non-fiction story; originally published in Issue 204 of Bewildering Stories.
  • Take a Shot (2006) -  Short story; originally published in Issue 25 of the Indite Circle Literary Magazine.  
  • Bipper and Wick (2006) - Children's Story; a young bear's youthful rebellion leads to an unlikely friendship on the night before Christmas. 
  • The Rooster that Wouldn't Crow (2006) - Children's Story; a story about individuality and a rooster's right to fall in love with whomever he chooses.
  • Puddles at the Pole (2006) - A Global Warming story told from the perspective of a polar bear and seal, Originally published by Ovi Magazine. 
  • Where Have All the Good Drivers Gone (2006) - Essay; top-ten finalist in the 2006 National Will Rogers Writing Contest, Originally published by Globusz Publishing.         
  • The Sweet Smelling Skunk (2007) - Children's Story; what does old Mrs. Donnelly do when she discovers a skunk in her garden? The answer might surprise you.
  • The Shell Shocked Turtle (2007) - Children's Story; a baby turtle shells out a lot of courage in order to face his fear of thunderstorms.
  • There’s a Crocodile in Our Pickle Jar (2007) - Children's Story; sometimes onions aren’t the only thing in the fridge that can make you cry.
  • The Starfish that fell from the Sky (2007) - Children’s Poem
  • No More Car Wash Blues (2007) - Children's Story; two elephants work at a car wash while pursuing their dreams of becoming a chef and singer.
  • The Lying Lion (2007) - Children's Poem
  • The Turkey and the Pumpkin (2007) - Children's Story; a young turkey escapes from his farm in the hopes of reaching a petting zoo before Thanksgiving.
  • A Mouse by the House (2008) - Children's Poem
  • Alligator Alley (2008) - Children's Story; on a summer evening in 1973, a mysterious alligator drops by to participate in the Annual Belvar Bowling Championship.
  • Stuttering Stan Takes a Stand (2008) - Children's Book: Stanley is like most squirrels; he loves nuts, climbing trees and playing with friends. But Stanley feels different from the other animals in his neighborhood, because he has a problem with words. Teased about his stuttering, Stanley refuses to let on that his feelings are being hurt, until one day he learns an important lesson from a new friend.  Coming in the summer of 2008!

     

    "Stuttering Stan Takes a Stand" is being published by the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, which has the largest pediatric speech pathology program in the United States.

Bewildering Stories

The California Kids Newspaper, which is distributed to more than 1,000 locations in the Sacramento Valley, is publishing Artie's children's stories as a monthly series called Knapptime Stories.
